Reflection: Journey On Relaxation Exercise

I felt the exercise was relaxing and I had no problem getting to a meditative state. The narrators voice was calm and soothing and the bells were nice. I followed his instructions and did actually feel my arms get heavy and tingly, but I had no problem lifting them up. I was not distracted by anything at the time. Perhaps I should not have let myself go into my "usual" meditative state? Maybe I went in too deep? I will definitely do the exercise again and try to see if it's any different.

  1. I have a problem with most of the meditative exercises...they want you to lie down and if i do that on the floor i can't get up again without help. So doing them sitting in a chair just doesn't have the same effect (sigh). But when I am exercising on the treadmill in rehab, i use imagery to pass the time and keep my asthma from rearing it's nasty head.

  2. I don't think it really matters whether you lie down, sit or stand as long as you feel comfortable. I have a certain spot in the house that I always go to meditate (on my bedroom floor)and I feel that is where I learned to how, the consistency of the same environment etc. Now I can do it anywhere. I think it's great that you are exercising and using imagery to pass the time. I say whatever works for you:)

  3. Thanks, I started out singing to myself but that ran out after about 5 min. So now I think of my self walking in the forest where my husband and I have gone turkey hunting.
I am also trying to use some of the meditation while sitting at the computer and see how that goes, like you said I don't think some of it matters so much what position you are in as long as you do it.
By the way, I had a laugh when you mentioned your 124# dog coupled with a cat/dog named shadow. When I was still living at the farm, we had three dogs-two males and one female. Whenever they would go out back at the farm, they usually brought home a small version of whatever it was they were hunting. My big (20# big) black cat used to go with them and bring home a smaller version. Well, one time they brought home a dead skunk. Yup, you guessed it, Nasty (the cat) brought home a baby one and in the process had gotten "skunked". It was my job to wash him with tomato juice to take away the smell and it required my wearing my fathers welders gloves to accomplish it.

  4. Susan I don't think there is a wrong way to do this exercise. As we are learning it is our intentions that help to heal us. Maybe your blood had better things to do than go hang out in your arms and hands.
